mind-meld: The Skinner Barn and Roundabout Theater
For the 2nd time in three years, the Roundabout Theater Company in NYC is following the lead of The Skinner Barn – home to Waitsfield’s professional summer theater company!
In the fall of 2011, the Skinner Barn producing team of Peter Boynton, Jono Mainelli and Nick Corley – all Broadway veterans - announced the selection of The Mystery of Edwin Drood for their summer 2012 musical production. Close on the heels of this announcement, the Roundabout Theater Company announced the first ever Broadway revival of Drood, starring Chita Rivera. Nick Corley even went on to play a role in that Broadway revival after directing the production at The Skinner Barn!
This past fall of 2013, the Skinner Barn team announced that the summer 2014 musical would be a production of Violet, the 1997 Off-Broadway show composed by Jeanine Tesori – best known for her shows Thoroughly Modern Millie and Shrek the Musical. And again, in January of this year, the Roundabout Theater Company announced their Broadway production of Violet starring Sutton Foster! The Broadway production will open in New York in March. The Waitsfield production will open at the end of July during the Valley Arts Festival.
There seems to be a mind-meld happening here!
The Skinner Barn production of Violet has almost completed the casting process and NYC actors Cotton Wright and Stephane Duret will join local actor, Justin Rowe in the three key roles of Violet and Flick and Monty.
