Broadway or The Skinner Barn? (or both!)
There are two opportunities to see the musical Violet this year – at the Roundabout Theater Company production on Broadway starring Sutton Foster, or at The Skinner Barn in Waitsfield this summer starring Cotton Wright! As folks who follow the goings on at The Skinner Barn know, for the 2nd time in three years, a Broadway producing company has chosen to mount a show already announced by our local theater company. The first instance was in 2012 when The Skinner Barn troupe announced it’s production of The Mystery of Edwin Drood and the Roundabout Theater Company announced a Broadway revival starring Chita Rivera soon after. (The director of our production at the barn, Nick Corley, was also a cast member of that revival!)
The Broadway production of Violet just opened on April 20th to a great review in the NY Times. Violet is an early work of composer Jeanine Tesori and was produced Off-Broadway in 1997. She has gone on to write the Broadway hits Thoroughly Modern Millie, Shrek The Musical.
Our own Violet, Cotton Wright, is a NYC-based actor, originally from Foxboro, MA, who will join our company this summer to make her Skinner Barn debut. Check our website for show details and tickets – the production runs from July 30th to August 10th, during the Festival For The Arts.
